Welcome Ottawa Week - LinkedIn Portrait Event

In partnership with Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership (OLIP) and World Skills Employment Centre the Algonquin College Photography Department is hosting an event for the Welcoming Ottawa Week.   This event will provide LinkedIn portraits to new immigrants to Ottawa.  
 
This event was organized by First Year Photography Student Nyamulola Kambanji, and all the portraits will be photographed by Students and Alumni from the Photography Program.  This event will be taking place on Friday June 23rd 2017, starting at 9AM, on campus in the Photography Studios, A147A/B.  

We are so proud of the response we have received from our Students and Alumni regarding this event, thank you to all who have volunteered!!

Grafik' Art Montreal 2017

The majority of the Photo Crew are heading to the Grafik' Art Montreal print tradeshow today. This has always been a great place for us to connect with our current print vendors (Canon, Epson, Fujifilm), meet new ones and get ideas for the program.

The Tecre button makers our students are so fond of... one of our finds at the show. The T5000 Epson Printer, affectionately known as Eastman, was a gift from Epson Canada Ltd  a few years back, thanks Epson!!

We will keep you posted through-out the day on the show, and what sort of trouble the Photo Crew gets into on the road and in Montreal!!

Hootsuite & AC Photo

New to our students this September 2017, Hootsuite Training and Certification!! 

We are very happy to partner with Hootsuite to provide this added benefit to our students through Hootsuite's Student Program.  

Our students will be able to learn this amazing social media management platform through the Hootsuite Academy and then take the Hootsuite Platform Certification for free!!  They can then display their achievement through the the Hootsuite Certified Professional Directory and on their LinkedIn Profile.  Using this social media management platform will definitely give them an advantage when marketing their own photography businesses, and this is a sought after skill for any potential employers.

This powerful image series of victims of acid attacks in India is by Jordi Pizarro, a photographer based in New Delhi.  These images bring to light some of the issues that women are encountering in India.  

From the work of Jacob Riis and Lewis Hines to contemporary documentary photographers like Leslie Alzheimer and Pizarro photography has always had the power to enact social change and share people's stories.  .

The Wade Brothers' awesome still and motion advertising work is definitely worth a look but this image always reminds me of a sense of joy and that rebellious f u spirit that sums up skateboarding so well.  The isolation of the subject and the beautiful shadow make the image.

PIC #02 - Marwane Pallas

Marwane Pallas - Series Doctrine of Signatures

This series by photographer Marwane Pallas uses the Doctrine Of Signatures, the believe that herbs and foods that resemble parts of the body can be used to heal that part.  The images make you take a second look and the simplicity of the composition does not overwhelm the photographer's message.  

It is also layered with visual references from Man Ray's Le Violon d'Ingres to even the posing of the body, Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian.  

Weegee Obsessed

Weegee, that obsessive little cigar smoking photographer from NYC, has turned into a bit of an obsession for us.  His images are amazing but so is his life in pictures.  Weegee at ICP.

We are very please to announce the launch of our new site!!!  

For the past two years we have been training our students to build and market their businesses online using Squarespace.  So we too have made the switch from our previous Wordpress site to Squarespace.
